Home and Away

Hey friends! This weekend I got a chance to watch the critically acclaimed movie The Black Balloon, which stars Rhys Wakefield. Incidentally, he is one of my favorite actors from the television series Home and Away. Now after watching his brilliant performance in the movie, I have just one more reason to watch him perform on the show. Although The Black Balloon was released in Australia in March itself, it took nine more months to get the movie released in America. I had heard about the movie being a masterpiece, but I came to appreciate its brilliance only after seeing it.

The movie chronicles the difficulties of a fifteen year old boy Thomas played by Rhys, who is forced to take care of his autistic elder brother Charlie, when his pregnant mother is hospitalized. He is helped in his efforts by his girlfriend Jackie played by Gemma Ward. Rhys has performed wonderfully well and has been successful in bringing out the pent up frustrations as well as the brotherly love that the character of Thomas feels for his mentally ill brother. The movie has already won numerous awards and has been equally appreciated by the critics as well as the common people.

I have always found Rhys to be a wonderful actor and have loved to see him perform on the daily soap Home and Away. In the show he portrayed Lucas Holden, the youngest member of the Holden family and Tony’s second son. His character was introduced into the series in 2005 and he continued to be on the show till 2008. Although he left the show in 2008, I am eagerly waiting his return to the show sometime in 2009. He has definitely proven himself to be one of the better actors of the Australian television as well as film industry. The show which has proved to be a steping stone for many actors that have joined and left its cast has a uniqueness and freshness that it has been able to maintain despite its more than twenty year long run. It is the classical masterpiece which has and continues to entertain the audiences despite their ages and ethnicities. I can use only one word to describe the show and that is UNMATCHED!
